Select Components to Keep

What are Downloaded Components and Why Should I Keep (or Remove) Them?

Downloaded Components are controls (for example, ActiveX or OCX) that have been downloaded from web sites and installed on your computer. Generally these are installed as plugins to provide additional web and/or browser functionality, however these type of components have been used to deliver viruses or other malicious acts.

As shown in the relevant Internet Explorer topic earlier in this chapter, with Total Privacy you can completely delete all these downloaded components. However, and in recognition that in some cases they are useful and improve your browsing experience, Total Privacy provides the Downloaded Components Wizard that allows you to edit and keep any of these downloaded components.

To Select Components to Keep

You can select individual Internet Explorer downloaded to keep.

  1. From the Privacy Items screen, click on the Browsers tab and then select Internet Explorer from the left hand panel.
  2. Click on the Select Components to Keep link. You will be presented with the Downloaded Components Wizard listing all the downloaded components (or browser plugins) installed on your computer.
  3. Simply check the checkbox adjacent to the components that you wish to keep. The checked components will not be deleted during your next Total Privacy washing cycle.
  4. You can easily select or deselect all listed downloaded components by clicking on the Select All or Select None quick link as desired.
  5. Click on the 'Ok' button when you have finished selecting and deselecting downloaded components for keeping.
