Internet Explorer Edit AutoScan...

If you have activated Internet Explorer's Search from the Address Bar feature, when you type an internet address into Internet Explorer's address bar that IE can not immediately find, IE tries to find sites with a similar name, but different suffix. For example, www.pointstone.biz doesn't exist and if you enter this address IE's address bar, it would normally display an error page. However, if you've enabled this feature, IE will try to find the site you're looking for by substituting common suffixes (such as .com, .edu, .net, .org etc.). In this manner, the correct address (www.pointstone.com) would be found and displayed by IE.

With Total Privacy you can edit the suffixes and order to search when you have enabled this IE feature. Click on the 'Edit AutoScan...' button and select from the following options…

  • Add: Should you wish to add another suffix to search, simply type this into the Template field in the format 'www.%s.xxx', where '%s' is a variable that represents any web site and 'xxx' is the additional suffix that you want to search for (replace 'xxx' with your suffix - e.g. 'biz'). Click on the 'Add' button and you'll note that the new internet suffix is added to the listing.
  • Delete: To remove suffixes that you do not want searched, simply select the relevant suffix and click on the 'Delete' button.
  • Modify: To edit or modify the internet suffixes to be searched, select the suffix to be modified and click on the 'Modify' button and then edit as desired in the Template field. Click on 'Ok' when finished.
  • Move up: Move an entry up in your search order, by selecting it in the listing and then clicking on the 'Move up' button until it is shown in the desired position.
  • Move down: Move an entry down in your search order, by selecting it in the listing and then clicking on the 'Move down' button until it is shown in the desired position.
